Selling Summer on Christmas Eve

Made in 4 days for the Yogscast Games' Jingle Game Jam 2024!

A controller is strongly recommended; I do not recommend Keyboard controls.

"Selling Summer on Christmas Eve" is a salesman simulator, where you need to make enough money to pay off your summerwear company's debt, before everyone goes home on Christmas Eve! It would be easier if you sold, well, Christmas items, but that's how life goes in a coastal tourist town. Speak to civilians, try to get their attention, then bring them into the store and negotiate the best price possible, to clear off the debt!

It's a fully 3D game created using the RPG Developer Bakin game engine. Explore a coastal city during a snowy night, talk to non-descript color-coded NPCs to bribe them into buying your summer wear, or just look around!

HOW TO PLAY

1. Download game, run game.
2. Start game after the intro cinematic.
3. Talk to civilians: get them to follow you by choosing wording that might make them interested. (You can have up to 8 civilians following you at the same time.)
4. Run to the shop you start the game at (yellow arrows will indicate it's position), and interact with the door to enter.
5. Talk to all your followers inside the shop: you can either accept their offer, or ask for a better price. The more you try negotiating, the more likely they'll leave without buying anything.

Win Condition: You earn 2512€.

Loss Conditions: There are no civilians left in town (including your followers), or you run out of inventory to sell (avoid selling low to everyone, you need to negotiate!).

TIPS

• NPCs are color-coded and gender-coded, for a total of 8 possible profiles, which will determine their reaction to your opening lines, their price offerings, negotiating frustrations and negotiating price bumps.
• You learn new opening lines after speaking to a certain amount of city NPCs. Make sure to speak to NPCs you know will react nicely with the initial opening lines first!
• RNG is everywhere, especially with the negotiating aspect, so don't look too deeply into the mechanics.
• You can press START on a controller to skip the bootup cutscene.
